The Leader's System.

Increasing returns whilst guarding against losing runs

This strategy was popularised by 'The Leader' in Cope's Racegoers Encylopedia way before WW2. For reference, we will call it 'The Leader's System'.

It requires a bank of 100 points and is designed to cover an initial losing sequence of thirteen . Provided that your selection criteria is viable, it is possible for this system to increase your returns dramatically, especially over a long period.

These days there are many more wagering opportunities available thanks to improved communications, internet betting sites, such as Betfair, which permit laying as well as backing, so that bettors can be far more discriminating,  versatile, and flexible in their betting approach.

How does it work?

A bank of 100 points is established.

There is a progressive increase in stakes on selections one through to ten, with 2 points being placed on selection 1, 3 points on selection 2, and so on. From selection 10 onwards the stakes are 10, 11, 12 and 13. Stakes revert to the opening level, i.e. 2 points, whenever all previous losses are recovered. The response to any loss being carried forward is to employ the unit stake next highest to the loss.

Add the stakes together and you will see that the total is 100 which equates to the opening bank. This is your total liability covering a minimum of thirteen wagers. The staking plan in tabular form is shown below.

Back your selections one by one. The first selection being your banker at the centre of the flag with the next four selections occupying the four corners. Out of the 8 lines of the Union Jack, up, down, corner to corner, four lines will be engaged. Add doubles making 4 Trixies. If your bet loses' start again. You need to be disciplined. Initially you need to cover 4 X 3 (2 doubles and a treble)  = 12 outcomes, which will be lost if your initial selection loses. If the 'banker' wins, the remainder of your bet will have been at least partially funded.

Why not employ the Leader's System as a viable loss recovery/profits maximisation strategy alongside this bet?

How does it work?

You need an initial winner, and one other, be it a back or a lay.  Depending on the odds obtained, your returns should go some way to cover the cost of the whole bet, (32 wagers).  A second 'winner' from the remaining 8 selections will guarantee a return from a successful double, a third winner will provide at least  two doubles, with the possibility of a third double plus a treble if the winners crop up on the same line.

Dutching 

This is a simple strategy favoured by a number of professional bettors. Two or more selections are identified. The chances of winning multiply according to the number of selections covered. You decide the percentage return you require, and adjust the odds you are prepared to accept.

A favourites system

I love thumbing through old racing books and I gladly pass on a system for favourite backers which could be worth checking. This is a 1944 vintage offering which appeared to work then, and should be even better now with more competitive betting.  The plan is simple, and the series loss is limited to 7 points. Select a meeting and back

1 point on the first favourite in the first race

2 points on the first favourite in the second race, and

4 points on the first favourite in the sixth race

STOP AT A WINNER.

If you are working a system which is finding frequent low priced winners, perhaps win and/or place lays, perhaps singles or dutched, you might be able to adapt the plan to your advantage. Thereafter, the application of a percentage of the bank strategy could gear up your returns whilst you continue to protect your risk.

How does it work?

Your daily liability is set. High frequency wins, albeit at small odds, should keep the bank healthy, and stakes increase only when your bank balance grows.
